  • Plays a critical role in collecting, maintaining and analyzing data that doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals rely on to deliver quality care.
  • Experts in managing patient health information and medical records, administering computer information systems and coding the diagnosis and procedures fro healthcare services provided to patients.
  • HIM professionals work in a multitude of settings including hospitals, physician offices, clinics, long term care facilities, insurance companies and government agencies.

Medical Assistant-Regional Wage $23,700-$33,050/yr.

  • Employment is considered to grow much faster than average ranking Medical Assistants among the fastest growing occupations in healthcare.
  • Job prospects should be excellent.
  • About 62% of the MA’s work in offices of physicians’ offices.
  • Most MA’s complete 1-2 year programs at a Technical or Community College and earn a certificate or diploma. Courses usually cover a diverse array of subject matter including; anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, keyboarding, transcription, record keeping, accounting, and insurance processing for example.
  • MA’s are qualified to assist at the clerical and administration level in doctor’s offices and clinics as well as in direct patient care.

  • Medical Coders receive a Certificate of Technical Status (CTS) from a community or technical college upon completion of 33 credit hours.

  • Medical Coders work in hospitals, clinics, doctors' offices and insurance companies.
