Students
participate
in Health Care Scholars program
Students interested in a healthcare career recently took part in a Healthcare Scholars Program to learn more about opportunities available in the healthcare field. Three programs took place, one at Fontainebleau High in Mandeville, one at Slidell High in Slidell and one at Charity School of Nursing in New Orleans. The weeklong camp engaged 9th and 10th graders in active learning opportunities with topics focused on healthcare careers, life skills, going to college and others. The students in West St. Tammany Parish toured Lakeview Regional Medical Center and were able to talk with on-duty staff members. Likewise, students in East St. Tammany toured Slidell Memorial Hospital, and partook in an Interviewing Skills Workshop. By the end of the program all students were certified in CPR and First Aid.
The Careers that Heal Healthcare Scholars program is funded by the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the Louisiana Recovery Authority and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and administered by Delgado Community College School of Nursing.
